The Town Crier
Royal Wootton Bassett Town Crier & Swordbearer, Owen Collier has held the position of Deputy Town Crier and the full position of Town Crier since 2000 on a voluntary basis. He accompanies the Mayor on many ceremonial occasions.
The public can see the Town Crier on the High Street on Wednesdays and Saturdays, come rain or shine to promote the Charter Market on Wednesdays, Town Museum, local community groups and businesses.
He is an Honorary Member of RWB Chamber of Commerce and currently is the Chairman of the The Ancient & Honorable Guild of Town Criers and competes in Town Crier competions across the County.

On 14th November 2018, Town Crier, Owen Collier raised £58.00 by taking the Wiltshire Walking Group on a very enjoyable Ghost Walk. Monies raised goes to the Town Hall Museum.
The biennial Town Crier Competition
was held on Saturday 22nd September 2018. Well done to everyone, despite the weather, a lovely day was had by all. Owen would like to express his thanks to A.D Rains Coaches, The Crown & The Angel Hotel, David Radway, Apsley House for the Trophies, ASF signs for supply of gifts, Robins Diary for supply of water and the Memorial Hall Committee for their help and support as well as Bassett Bar & Catering, The Judges, and staff of Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council and finally everyone who came and supported on the day. A special thank you goes to Owen's lovely lady, Shelia Collier, for all her dedicated help and support for the last 18 years!
Congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to Tom Gahan, our Junior Town Crier, who has retired at the grand old age of 12. Wish him every success for his future.
